It's Back
I feel Ohio will go clearly to Bush, Florida will go clearly to someone - they can't afford a repeat of the last election. But Pennsylvania? If the ghost of Florida 2000 lives, it's in Pennsylvania. First disenfranchised absentee ballots. Now poll watchers find an estimated 2000 votes already cast before the polls opened. This year, the keystone state may very well be the center of attention.
The Kerry Campaign says reports of votes already on machines are 'false.'
Oh, right. Clears things up for me.
Election Prayer
"Father, give us not the President we deserve;
give us not the President we want;
but give us the President we need."
History may call it the most important election of our generation. It may be seen as the election that effected the next hundred years of our nation. And at the time, no one realized it. The 2000 election.
If God could give us the leader we needed - before we had any idea of why we would need him - He can do that again today. For we may not, even now, understand what we are going to need.
Vote once - Pray often.
Election Promise
In light of today's events, Spurgeon's 'Morning & Evening' devotion for this morning is quite appropriate:
"I am the Lord, I change not."
--Malachi 3:6
It is well for us that, amidst all the variableness of life, there is One whom change cannot affect; One whose heart can never alter, and on whose brow mutability can make no furrows. All things else have changed--all things are changing. The sun itself grows dim with age; the world is waxing old; the folding up of the worn-out vesture has commenced; the heavens and earth must soon pass away; they shall perish, they shall wax old as doth a garment; but there is One who only hath immortality, of whose years there is no end, and in whose person there is no change. The delight which the mariner feels, when, after having been tossed about for many a day, he steps again upon the solid shore, is the satisfaction of a Christian when, amidst all the changes of this troublous life, he rests the foot of his faith upon this truth--"I am the Lord, I change not."
The stability which the anchor gives the ship when it has at last obtained a hold-fast, is like that which the Christian's hope affords him when it fixes itself upon this glorious truth. With God "is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." What ever His attributes were of old, they are now; His power, His wisdom, His justice, His truth, are alike unchanged. He has ever been the refuge of His people, their stronghold in the day of trouble, and He is their sure Helper still. He is unchanged in His love. He has loved His people with "an everlasting love"; He loves them now as much as ever He did, and when all earthly things shall have melted in the last conflagration, His love will still wear the dew of its youth. Precious is the assurance that He changes not! The wheel of providence revolves, but its axle is eternal love.
"Death and change are busy ever,
Man decays, and ages move;
But His mercy waneth never;
God is wisdom, God is love."

No, Times Left?
"Is the New York Times a Liberal Newspaper?" That was the provocative title of Times' Public Editor Daniel Okrent's July 25 column. Okrent's answer to his own question was equally stimulating: "Of course it is."
A Little To The Right
In his latest 'flash traffic' Rosenberg ('Last Days' and 'Last Jihad') says:
WILL PENNSYLVANIA BREAK FOR BUSH? -- Having spent the last few days in the suburbs of Pittsburgh talking to lifelong Democrats and watching the blizzard of non-stop political ads, I get the sense the state may be trending Bush.
And it seems that Curt Schilling is helping too.
"I'm proud to be on a team with a more important mission -- the team that's going to get George Bush re-elected."
Can't find any online version to Rosenberg's e-mail - but if I do, I'll post it.

Liberal Left Wing 'Unbiased' Press
Amazing, isn't it? Listening to the news and hearing all those people put away their own personal views and just give you the unbiased facts. Ah, it's a breath of fresh air...
It's enough to make you puke, isn't it? Thankfully I've been out of the country so I haven't been subject to all of it. Every once in awhile I'll catch a glimpse of the Communist News Network. Here's a question: How come President Bush steals electoral votes, and Senator - isn't it sorta wrong to call him that? It's not like he does any senatorial duties. So much for serving the people. I guess it's hard to do your job while on the campaign trail Mr. Kerry. We understand...although, President Bush seems to be doing his job all right while on the trail...I mean - America is still safe, isn't it? Guess it's just a character issue. Okay, enough of this rabbit trail.
Here's the reason I bring up this subject. There's this guy who comes to the church here. His name is Tomas. Last Sunday he asked my mom if she was going to vote. She told him that she already had voted through an absentee ballot. His next question was, "Are you going to vote democratic?" Now, it's important to know how he said it. It was as if he thought it a "duh" question - that she would have to be an incredulous fool to not vote democratic. When she proceeded to tell him she was voting for Bush and the reasons why, it was as if he couldn't believe it. It appeared he was trying to decide if she was an incredulous fool or if her point had any weight at all. Today he had the same conversation with Pastor Furse.
My point is as follows: Living in the Czech Republic all he hears about the two candidates comes from the media - mostly news I would imagine. And he probably hasn't heard what either side stand for. He's been subjected to the endless "unbiased" news reports belittling my President and making a lying, flip flopping, waffling, untrustworthy man look like someone worth voting for.
That's why you need to educate those around you. Instead of letting them soak up the "unbiasedness" from the news media, show them the truth of the issue. Show them who the right man for the job is. Show them who will stand for them - and not for ketchup and get rich easy schemes. 'You can be a multi-billionaire with just 2 words'.
Show them who deserves their vote.
And I'm not talking about Nader...
Does it ever end?
Partisan Politics that is. Since when does a title in government mean you're allowed to sway democracy towards your own personal beliefs? Do you have so little faith in your beliefs that you can't sit back and let democracy have its own way? No, you have to abuse your authority to make sure the candidate you support has no competition - taking away the freedom a third-party candidate had to run. No matter how much of a loser that third-party candidate is.
But then, when the court battle delays the mailing of absentee ballots, you use that delay of absentee ballots - a piece of paper that signifies a person's freedom, that gives a person a voice in their democratic government - for your advantage. You deny that serviceman, missionary, or traveler their freedom and right as a citizen of a great land to voice their opinion.
What if that happened to you when you were running, Mr. Governor? Would it be 'just one or two votes' then Mr. Governor? Would you only be able to find one voter out of 26000 that wouldn't be able to vote then? I highly doubt it. Now, because of you, some voters rights will be taken away.
Mr. Governor, I encourage you to either have more faith in your party, or pick a party that you can have faith in.
